Abstract

Return to work is a central theme in Occupational Medicine. With the changes in contemporary work environments, the incidence of mental disorders has increased on an unprecedented scale. We searched for reports on return to work programs designed for workers that experienced mental disorders, as well as the stages and agents involved in the process. We reviewed scientific articles published from 2000 to 2018, using the following keywords: return to work; depression; stress; mental disorders; behavioral disorders. Few articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, however. This literature review emphasized the importance of organizations adopting a workplace health policy and supporting and managing return to work to retain employees.
