Abstract

Objective: To understand the work of the typographic printer of a graphic company, its demands, loads and operative strategies. Method: Ergonomic work analysis was performed, with global and systematic observations, interviews, photographic registration and filming. Results: The existence of cognitive demands was observed encompassing the need of concentrated attention, perception of details, recent and remote memory and decision making, as well as visual demands. The physical demand was due to: standing posture, forced postures, displacements, repetitive movements and strenght exercised. The operative strategies included: the arrangement of the work station; double surveillance; consultation to the supervisors in the decision making; disrespect to the prescribed organization of work. Conclusion: The ergonomic work analysis proved to be an important instrument in the understanding of work and prevention of work related diseases.
