It’s an analysis of Boy and The World (2014) that points out conceptions of childhood, in narrative representation, and voice, as the unspeakable of affections. The film shows a boy who sees his father leaving the country for lack of work. He then leaves in search of his father. The father took the train and the boy is taken by the wind. Childhood here refers to the creative power of the world (Giorgio Agamben). The voice, in Jacques Lacan’s words, is speech emptied of meaning as a known language. Childhood and voice show us beyond the foreseeable, to see beyond what appears immediately. And so, it shows the importance of the child who resists and reinvents himself in each of us.
