Abstract

This essay analyses two photographs of Brasilian Northeastern children, from the work Terra ("Land"), by Sebastião Salgado. Based on Roland Barthes's concepts developed in Câmara Clara, the essay intends to find out how these images go beyond the purely documen- tal aspect. In order to reach this objective, the study interacts wich G.Ramos's and Jorge Luís Borges's texts.
