This paper analyzes questions pertaining to the creative process in the documentary movie Elena (Petra Costa, 2012), whose narrative is constructed through the stories that connect the world of the sisters Elena and Petra. The imagetic-discursive reconstruction of the path taken by her older sister, by the director, author, narrator and protagonist Petra, draws a sort of cartography of the spaces, objects, memories, feelings and desires experienced by both. To investigate this cartography, we selected as theoretical basis the studies focused on issues such as “creation”, “authorship”, “autobiography” and “subjectivity”, which apply or may be applied to contemporary documentary, using authors such as Leonor Arfuch, Evelina Hoisel, Jean-Claude Bernardet, Raquel Schefer, Suely Rolnik, Guattari, Freud and Deleuze.
