The aim of this paper is to trace the trajectory of Armando
Pamplona at the International Exhibition for the Centennial of
Brazilian Independence, in 1922, analyzing the participation of
his production company, Independência Film, and his films. We
intend to evaluate the relationship between cinema and the state in
this period, taking Pamplona — named ‘apostle of modernism’ by
Menotti del Picchia — as a case study.
