This paper reflects on the reasons and motivations for the consumption of tag-like art works by articulating authors writing about consumption, art, and psychoanalysis. Two gallery owners and four consumers were interviewed to identify possible consumption rituals. This type of acquisition and ownership is a way for consumers to approach meanings associated with street art, such as transgression, courage and freedom, through displaced meaning. By owning these objects, consumers would try to embody these characteristics and show their ability to understand and dialogue with these artists who use tagging to achieve social visibility and inclusion.
