Abstract

Objective: to analyze nurses’ perception and nursing care concerning the risk of depression
during pregnancy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: descriptive study with qualitative
approach conducted with 21 nurses involved in prenatal care at Primary Health Care units and a
routine-risk Prenatal Outpatient Clinic. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews,
both in-person and online. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, applying the theoretical
framework related to care comprehensiveness. Results: two themes were identified following
careful data analysis: (i) nurses’ knowledge about the risk of depression during pregnancy as a
trigger for care; (ii) nursing care for pregnant women at risk of depression during pregnancy.
Conclusion: nursing care regarding the risk of depression during pregnancy amid the COVID-19
pandemic was linked to nurses’ perception of the risk of disorder development, their knowledge
about risk factors, and facilitators and barriers related to its onset.
