Abstract

Objective: this article aims to analyze the symptoms and effects of compulsive pornography
consumption through a systematic review, comparing them with other addictions, particularly
alcohol and substance use disorders. Methodology: a systematic review was conducted using
two health databases. Inclusion criteria encompassed individuals with alcohol or other drug use disorders and individuals with compulsive pornography consumption, with studies published in Portuguese or English. Results: of 632 articles identified, 14 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were selected for analysis. Data were processed using textual analysis software, which classified the articles into nine distinct groups based on lexical similarity. Conclusion: the findings revealed a predominance of studies examining personality traits and behavioral patterns in individuals with addiction, with particular emphasis on diagnosis, behavioral effects, and neurological impacts of compulsive pornography consumption.
