The hippocratic legacy and its fortune in the greco-roman period: from Cós to Galen

This article discusses Hippocrates' legacy and that of the Corpus hippocraticum (CH) in the period between v and iv centuries a.C. and Galen in the ii century d.C. In the first part, I make a description of the works that compose the CH and a resume of the medical conceptions that it contains. In the second part, I present the fortune of the legacy in the Alexandrine period and its first comments. Finaly, Galen's role in the transmission and in the difusion of the Hippocratic legacy is discussed in view of the totality of his works and conceptions, which are in part directly inherited from the CH.Downloads
