Lafetá’s study focuses on “the familiar romance” as a latent structure in Caetés masterpiece. From the analysis of retardation, a narrative procedure recognized as basic in the masterpiece, the critic goes through the observation João Valério’s narrator-character wish projections, an aspect that was studied by Lamberto Puccinelli.
