An important source about ancient Hebrews’ music consists of the many references in the Hebrew Bible regarding singing and musical instruments. Nevertheless, those references must be carefully interpreted, supported and confronted to archaeological discoveries such as iconography, objects and music instruments. This essay aims to explore the contextual elements in musical evolution by presenting some musical references in the Hebrew Bible, revealing a huge field of Hebrew musical participation, from the organized religious service to popular manifestations.
