This article aims to analise the question of assimilation in the novel "American Pastoral", by Philip Roth. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1997, the book tells the story of Swede Levov, an assimilated Jew whose daughter committed terrorist acts in the 60s. Focusing on this family, the author explores the adaptation and rejection of the American dream by Jews of different generations.
