A religião é uma importante dimensão da vida em sociedade. Quando se estudam comunidades dispersas é possível notar como a religião, assim como outros meios
de convívio, desempenha uma função relevante no processo de formação da identidade desses imigrantes/migrantes (SABAR, 2004, p. 408). No caso particular
de Israel, por toda a conotação religiosa judaico-cristã atribuída ao Estado e à região, em especial pelas igrejas evangélicas que foram estabelecidas pelos trabalhadores imigrantes ilegais no país, o papel da religião na formação da identidade das comunidades imigrantes toma novos significados que merecem uma avaliação pormenorizada.
