Abstract

Using Elisabeth Wesseling’s Writing history as a prophet as a theoretical support, this comparative study between Arménio Vieira’s O eleito do sol and Antonio Olinto’s A casa da água, examines the similarities and contrasts between Capeverdean and Afro-Brazilian imaginaries. On the one hand, the Capeverdean island serves as a supra-national allegory while the reverse diasporic journey by the protagonists in A casa da água revisits the inverted
translantic journey following the abolition of slavery in Brazil in 1888.
