Digital natives and their looks at the image of the school library

Abstract

Objective: to analyze the connectivity of digital natives with the school library of the municipal education network Umef Dr Tuffy Nader (Barra do Jucu, Vila Velha, ES - Brazil) with the librarian acting as mediator in this space. With the purpose (purpose) of adapting its functioning to these students born in the digital age.

Method: it is used for analysis of this study beyond an exploratory and descriptive phase of investigation, in which will be used the qualitative approach, an ethnographic research - and brings as data collection instrument, the technique of in-depth interviews - with the natives in the school library of the Vila Velha municipal school system.

Result: it shows that the library is present in the school context as of great importance to digital natives, and the mediating librarian can also assume the pedagogical function and prepare these digital-born students for an Information Society, which is immersed in digital technologies. increasingly younger.

Conclusions: Knowing the digital natives, these students that the schools have received, born with the arrival of digital technologies and who have developed a new relationship with knowledge, are of great relevance to information science, and the librarian working in this area. This scenario needs to assume a socializing function, being the mediating bridge for these students to seek information and find it in a dynamic and pleasant way. It is also noted that many digital natives have assimilated a greater concern about real estate than about technology itself, given that not all students born in the digital age actually have access to technology.
