Abstract

“Plant blindness” is a term widely accepted in biology teaching to express the inability of human beings to perceive plants in the environment, leading to devaluation and damage to botany teaching. However, criticisms have been raised, pointing out the ableist content of the term. For this reason, alternatives to “plant blindness” have been put forward in the English literature. As an alternative to “cegueira botânica” (“plant blindness”) it is proposed the term “impercepção botânica” in Portuguese (“plant unawareness”).
