Abstract

Yuriko Miyamoto (1899-1951) was born in Tokyo as Yuri Chūjō and had her first short story, “Mazushiki hitobito no mure” (“A bunch of poor people”, 1916), published when she was still a teenager. Her texts, in general, have a strong autobiographical content and are very concerned with denouncing and raising awareness about injustices and social inequalities. She is known as an author of feminist and proletarian literature in Japan, however, the text translated here presents slightly different characteristics of this author, as it is a fictional and more sentimental short story.
