This paper aims to present to Brazilian readers a translation of the Japanese children’s story “Tebukuro wo kaini” (1933) [Buying Gloves] written by Niimi Nankichi (1913-1943). This originally was made to be read out loud by me at the first Niimi Nankichi workshop held in Brazil on November 12, 2023 at Bunkyo (Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture and Social Assistance), in São Paulo (SP), whose target audience was children, young people and adults (listed by priority order). Gestures, intonation and a copy of an illustrated book of the same narrative were used in order to help the audience visualizing the scenes of the narrative, which featured rare elements for Brazilians such as Japanese cultural references, snow and foxes. For this publication, some adaptations were made for the sake of autonomous reading. Also, some improvements were implemented. In the first part of this article, we present reflections on the translation process of the narrative, the challenges faced and the changes that were made after the workshop. In the second part, we present the translation, followed by the source text in Japanese.
