The purpose of this article is to re-read Roland Barthes’s Camera Lucida (1980) in view of the web of relationships that this work creates by linking photography, writing and mourning. In order to achieve this aim, as numerous critics do, I defend its understand not as a theoretical but as a literary text in which the writer exposes the reflective path he travels to try to find his dead mother again. The differential of this text in relation to the critical fortune about this book which was the last one that Barthes published in his life lies in showing how from the contemplation of photography the writer goes to the writing of it, which is the writing of nothing to say. In this process, the time, as an element of the narrative, plays a fundamental role, as my analysis of the barthesian text will demonstrate.
