"Torto Arado" between the crooked and the straight: compliments and interdicts

Abstract

This article aims to improve the discussion about one of the greatest Brazilian literary phenomena of the 21st century: the novel Torto Arado. The discussion about the quality of the literary piece, however, seems to be guided by necessity and by thematic pertinence. The compliments to the novel, based little on the analysis of the literary construction, seem to have created an environment that blocks the debate on the advance of the fragilities of the poetical elaboration of the narrative. On that sense, we approach some of the moments of the reception of the novel and propose a realistic reading of some passages of the text to make some considerations about certain aspects that can be considered problematic or inconsistent in the construction of the three narrators of the mentioned work.
