Resumo

This research identifies and analyzes the direct and indirect jobs generated by the production chain of shrimp farms in Brazil. Using data collected in study cases and auxiliary data, the results obtained show that the shrimp production chain, formed by postlarvae hatcheries, shrimp farms and processing plants, generates 1.89 directjobs per hectare and 1.86 indirectjobs also per hectare, summing 3.75 direct and indirect jobs per hectare. The jobs generated by the shrimp production chain are greater than the number of jobs generated by the irrigated fruit production, a sector highly dynamic in job generation, and greater than the jobs generated in sugar cane and coconut production, typical primary industries of the Zona da Mata region.
