PIA Produto at constant prices: a methodological proposal using implicit deflators

The Brazilian Annual Industrial Survey (PIA Produto) is the most traditional source of information about the Brazilian industry. However it is available only in nominal prices. One may point IPP/IBGE and IPA/FGV as possible price indexes to build a constant price series, but both indices present some limitations. Trying to fill this gap, this paper proposes a producer price index methodology using data from the Annual Industrial Survey (PIA Produto) itself and the National Accounts System, both public sources of information. A comparison between the proposed aggregate index and the reference indices showed good adherence to the estimated data.
