Abstract

This paper analyzes the behavior of occupations in the Brazilian labor market and describes upward and downward trends. Using an approach similar to Amaral et al. (2018) and microdata from the PNAD Contínua (PNADC), between 2012 and 2019, we investigate which occupations grew/declined the most over this period. The results suggest that, among the emerging occupations, those related to services stand out, such as Other Sellers (16,2% p.a.) and Street Sellers and Market Posts (11% p.a.). IT-related and people-centric occupations were also among the fastest-growing, as observed in developed economies, although the number of workers in these occupations is relatively low.
