Muito além da “Lei de Wagner”: o pensamento econômico de Adolph Wagner

O artigo procura interpretar elementos teóricos e metodológicos da obra de Wagner, tendo como referência três grandes conflitos da época em que viveu o autor: o debate teórico-metodológico sobre a existência e a relevância de uma teoria econômica completamente autônoma em relação às demais ciências humanas; o conflito em torno da formação e do nível de desenvolvimento econômico de um país dos falantes de língua alemã e a “questão social” e os conflitos de classe ligados à urbanização e à industrialização. O autor advogou a atuação do Estado como meio para promoção do desenvolvimento econômico e da reforma social. Wagner desenvolveu um ponto de vista sofisticado acerca das relações entre poder público e mercados, o qual enfatizava a interdependência e a coevolução de Estados nacionais e economias nacionais.
