The recurrence of criticisms to Economics suscitates the reflections contained in the article. In a quick course through the history of economy thought, one observes the progress of science towards an Economics less political and more technical, to which the contribution of thinkers such as Ricardo, Mill, the marginalists and Marshall is decisive. But the process of afirmation of the professionalizant current, constituting itself as a disciplined knowledge, did not eliminate the concurrence of the vulgar and undisciplined knowledge, informed by practical experience. In fact, the gap between these two worlds has been widened. To recover the lost prestige and overcome these problems, the authors suggested an investment in the area of philosophy of Economics, as solid and rigorous as the investment done in the fields of mathematical formalization and in statistical and econometric research.
