Ethics and AI policy
Ethics policy
Estudos Semióticos adheres to the recommendations of the Code of Good Scientific Practice of the São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP). Our editorial practices are guided by the principles of transparency, impartiality, confidentiality, respect for diversity, and the fight against fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism, as set forth in the Code of Conduct for Journal Editors by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the White Paper on Publication Ethics by the Council of Science Editors (CSE).
Resolution of Conflicts of Interest and Ethical Violations;
The editors will take the necessary measures to identify and prevent the publication of articles involving research misconduct or ethical violations, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification or fabrication, lack of relevant authorizations, discrimination, among others. Any situations or allegations brought to the attention of editors and reviewers will be referred to the Editorial Board, which will take appropriate action.
Integrity and Plagiarism Prevention Policy
As part of efforts to promote academic integrity and prevent plagiarism in publications listed on the USP Journal Portal, the journal Estudos Semióticos uses a text similarity detection service based on the Turnitin platform, which has been in use at the University of São Paulo since February 2017. These services are offered by the Integrated Library System in partnership with the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies (OriginalityCheck), the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies (FeedBack Studio), and the Office of the University President (Similarity Check – iThenticate) for editors of USP journals.
Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy
Aware of the challenges that recent developments in Artificial Intelligence pose to the world of research and its dissemination, Estudos Semióticos adopts basic principles for its responsible and transparent use in the works it publishes. These principles are based on the recommendations of Resolution 01/2025 on ethics and integrity in scientific publishing issued by the Journal Editors’ Forum of ANPOLL (brazilian Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Literature and Linguistics), which are consistent with the guidelines recommended by CNPq, CAPES, and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
