Abstract

This paper discusses questions related to motherhood and femininity and aims to verify which psychic resources a woman needs to become mother. We started from a qualitative study with expected mothers who attend prenatal service in two health institutions. The speeches collected from the interviews were split into two categories and analyzed according to the psychoanalytic referential. We supposed that is necessary for a woman to have specific psychic resources to exercise motherhood. There is a psychic singularity to become mother.
