Abstract

Maternal representations include mother's expectations, fantasies and desires about baby, as well as transgenerational aspects related to. This study aims to introduce these representations, focusing on woman's representations about the own mother and baby. It also shows possibilities of evaluation and clinical intervention about these representations, in a psychoanalytical perspective. It was highlighted the investigation of maternal representations as an important instrument of parent-infant clinic, helping to improve the quality of this relationship. Then, their investigation could be more employed not only in clinical, but also in research context.
