Abstract

This article touches on a crucial problem regarding education nowadays: violence. It questions what the role of the school- one of the last havens of community life -, would be, in a society where individualism reigns - either by producing violence or by attempting to bring peace into people's relations. The author remarks that rationality, on which education tries increasingly to rest as a way of denying it self as an impossible profession, fails to govern the soul and the subjective relations. It cannot entirely forecast human destiny which is always vulnerable to chance and encounters.
