Abstract

This text seeks to highlight the transmission of knowledge through the oralperformatic ritual practice of capoeira angola. Such transmission of knowledge will be exemplified here based on the compositions of mestre Moraes, who is at the head of the Grupo de Capoeira Angola Pelourinho, in Salvador, Bahia, conforming what I shall call “a mandinga poetic”. As an apprentice of capoeira, I make an association between academic studies and my corporal practice, emphasizing that the transmission of capoeira angola is based on constant dialogues between texts created, spoken, recorded, written, drawn by the body through voice and gestures, a process that is both cognitive and practical.
