Abstract

The article aims to understand how the cultural heritage, the Festa de Santa Cruz, located in a rural area in the city of Divinolândia / SP, shows the conflicts between the players in the occupation of lands in the 18th and 19th centuries in the interior of São Paulo. Since their origin is related to the presence of quilombolas in the region and the permanence of its cult is given by the European immigrants and their descendants until the present day. In this way, it is possible to understand by the celebration that the selection of memory and forgetfulness, as well as the permanence or erasure of identity marks in the local territorial dynamics occurs through a process of whitening initiated in the eighteenth century by the colonial company, through the deterritorialization of the black and indigenous population, perpetuated by the coffee plantations elites in the later century whose effects are seen nowadays.
