This article discusses, from the literature, the way in which unique spatial imaginations about places are produced. In the light of the studies input of Doreen Massey (2008), in which the place is composed by a collection of stories into a space articulated by power relations, our writing points that a process of spatial imagination has a close relationship with the narratives about places. When a given image/story is repeated as stereotype and truth, reverberates into associations that are unpromising to the spatial imagination process and reinforces a privileged form of narrative about places. Our questioning conceives the provocation of thinking the place as multiple, juxtaposed with heterogeneous relationships and narratives. We chose the book Voyage to India, by Gonçalo M. Tavares, to our appropriate the narrative potency to the ways of viewer and saying the spatial that the book brings and, thus, proposing an encounter with literary writing as a geographical experience.
