This article aims to show the importance of geography in the education of students, for understanding their socio-spatial realities. As a discipline that studies society through socio-spatial relations and territorialization, geography plays a unique role in assisting social transformation. School geography should develop students’ ability to observe, analyze, interpret, and think/reflect/inquire critically about reality, with the aim of fostering transformative action. However, in Mozambique, this discipline is not being given the importance it deserves in education: following changes to the school curriculum, the discipline was removed from the early grades. Nevertheless, this content is fundamental to understanding the territorial contradictions of a country like Mozambique. Reflective in nature, this article concludes with some answers to the question Geography and curriculum: for whom in Mozambique? To this end, we use as a basis some contributions from the debate held in a presentation at a conference in Maputo. The methodology used in the production of this text was bibliographic and documentary research.
