This paper was based on the results of the Doctor (PhD) thesis of SETTE (2000) The holorrythm and the tropical-extratropical interactions in the genesis of climate and landscape of Mato Grosso (BR). Two hidrologic years, from september 1996 up to august 1998, were used to analyse the rainfall distribuition and anomalies, and its ielationships with the 1997-98 El Nino event. Weather synoptic charts and satellite imageries were worked out and correlated to the daily, monthly, seasonnaly, and yearly rainfall mapping. Concluding remarks has shown that strong El Nino events, can change the circulation tropospheric pattern in the Central South American Continent even including the Southern Amazônia Equatorial forest région Rainfall observed anomalies up to 50% of a négative réduction were recorded in the far northwestern, and castern régions of the Mato Grosso State (BR), during 1998, february to may. Otherwise, rainfall monthly data, of 1997 may and june, indicated a positive déviation, on meridional régions of the Mato Grosso. During the 1997-98 El Hino event, was recorded extremely higher air températures (absolute maximum between 40-42° C) and very low relative moisture (20-30%) mainly in the winter, and spring episodiesDownloads
