The idea in this article is to present a bibliographical examination of the discussion around the night as an analytical category for research in the area of human geography and related sciences. We present the main lines of studies about the night in relation to urban dynamics, highlighting fundamental features of the analyses produced in the last 40 years of research: agents, processes and spatialities derived from the practices associated with nighttime. The objective is to point out some trends and place some problems related to the use of the category of night in its relationship with the urban space present in the idea of frontier, in the notion of transgression of order and in conflicts related to the use for leisure activities.
