A bibliometric analysis of the Boletim Paulista de Geografia (BPG), from 1949 to 2018, was carried out. Among the 485 papers, the most cited authors were: Milton Santos (469), Paul Singer (377), Ariovaldo Umbelino Oliveira (155). The highest H indexes of the magazine highlighted the productivity of Aziz Ab'Saber and Aroldo de Azevedo. The authors' gender ratio was 69% of men and 31% of women. After 2007, the percentages showed a better balance: 53% of men and 47% of women. Of the 559 authors, there were 403 papers with a single author (83%) and 82 with coauthoring, ranging from two to twelve coauthors (17%). The predominant language of the bibliographical references was Portuguese (68%), English (19%) and French (13%). Until 1965, books predominated, between 1966 and 1990 the percentages were similar and, from 1991, the papers became the main type of cited reference.
