This work presents the analysis technique of buildings frequency as a formal ins- trument for assessment of urban systems behavior, with reference to spatial pat- terns of hydrological systems. The conceptual basis of the study is grounded on the systemic approach applied on the level of river basins. Three representative, contiguous and independent basins were selected for the study. The watercour- ses of these basins were extracted from an MDT at 1:2.000 scale. The frequency analysis was parameterized by the Density of Buildings (De) and Urban Occupa- tion Index (IOU) in various bands around the watercourses. The urban occupation process of geographical space of the three basins reveals distinct patterns. In two basins the IOU was statistically similar.
