The soundscape is constantly present in our lives—in the songs of birds, in nature, in industry, in cities, in this grand ambient melody. It surrounds us and involves us in an acoustic atmosphere, where sound elements of various typologies flow. But after all, what is a soundscape? This poem carries with it a brief history of soundscape study, exploring the different types of soundscapes, definitions and quotes from significant authors in the field. It’s a way to discover more about the soundscape in a light and poetic way, as Bernie Krause says: “A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a natural soundscape is worth a thousand pictures.”
