About the Journal

Focus and Scope

InCID: Revista de Ciência da Informação e Documentação is an open-access scientific journal dedicated to specialized dissemination in Information Science, providing a space for interdisciplinary and interinstitutional discussions on informational themes and the potential interfaces that permeate these topics.

In addition to original articles and research reports, the journal publishes book reviews, special documents, interviews, and translations authored by faculty members and researchers, subject to approval via double-blind peer review and by the Editorial Board.

InCID: Revista de Ciência da Informação e Documentação is a national journal operating on an annual basis under a continuous publication model.

Peer Review Process

The publication of submitted articles is subject to the evaluation of at least two members of the journal's Editorial Board or reviewers invited by the Editorial Team. The procedures adopted by the journal for the analysis and approval of manuscripts adhere to internationally accepted standards: blind peer review, ensuring impartiality, scientific rigor, and editorial suitability.

Reviewers receive anonymized manuscripts for analysis, while authors are granted access to the reviews of their texts at the end of the process, also without the identification of the reviewers.

During the assignment of manuscripts to reviewers, situations involving conflicts of interest or any other circumstances that might compromise a competent and fair analysis of the texts will be avoided.

Decisions on rejected manuscripts are final and not subject to appeal.

Copyright, Ethics, and Anti-Plagiarism Policy

InCID: Revista de Ciência da Informação e Documentação adheres to the Best Practice Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), aiming to ensure integrity and remaining vigilant against misconduct practices that may occur during the publication process, such as: plagiarism, self-plagiarism, citation manipulation, data falsification, ghost authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and peer review manipulation.

The journal is committed to the ethical standards involved in all stages of the publication process, requiring that authors, editors, reviewers, and members of the editorial and scientific boards adhere to these principles.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must adhere to the stipulated timeframe for evaluation, notifying the editorial team of potential delays or the inability to review the manuscript. Their work must prioritize confidentiality, ensuring the secrecy of privileged information obtained during the review process, and declining manuscripts involving conflicts of interest, personal affinity, or any form of relationship with the authors.

Evaluations must be conducted exclusively based on academic merit. The review should be objective, clear, and constructive to assist the author, and may identify relevant published work that has not been cited. Communicating with the editor is crucial if substantial similarity or overlap with other texts is identified.

Responsibilities of the Editor

The journal editor is responsible for deciding which of the submitted articles will be published. The editor must ensure the fairness of the evaluation process, assessing manuscripts based on their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

No information regarding manuscripts submitted for publication may be disclosed, except for what is necessary for the reviewers. The editor must be vigilant and take responsive measures when ethical complaints are presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published paper.

The editor and the editorial team must ensure the appropriate selection of reviewers, maintaining an updated database of qualified reviewers.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authorship Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Individuals who participated in certain aspects of the research project should be listed as contributors. The journal recommends reading the text "Ordem de autores: melhores práticas de atribuição de autoria" [Author Order: Best Practices for Authorship Attribution], available at https://www.aguia.usp.br/noticias/ordem-de-autores/. The corresponding author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included in the paper. The person responsible for submitting the manuscript to InCID guarantees having obtained the consent of all authors. Changes in authorship cannot be made during the editorial process and/or after the final acceptance of the manuscript.

Copyright and Originality The author guarantees copyright ownership and grants the Journal the right of first publication. The author must ensure the originality of the work and that it is not under consideration for publication by another journal simultaneously, nor has it been previously published (in part or in whole). The use of material previously published by the same author(s) must be explicitly indicated and justified to avoid suspicions of self-plagiarism. Integrity and Compliance To analyze originality, manuscripts submitted to InCID will be checked using text similarity verification tools, such as iThenticate Similarity Check and Turnitin. A lack of scientific integrity will result in the rejection of the manuscript from the evaluation process. InCID encourages authors to make the raw data of their work available in public repositories, when appropriate. Authors must disclose in the manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript, as well as disclose all sources of financial support for the project. Ethics Approval from the Research Ethics Committee must be submitted with the manuscript for research involving human participants, vulnerable groups, etc.

Retraction Policy

In cases involving suspected breaches of scientific integrity, an investigation will be conducted by the editorial team to ensure scientific and ethical standards.

If misconduct by authors is confirmed, the manuscript will be withdrawn from the evaluation process. Should misconduct be committed by one or more editors, they will be removed from their duties within the journal. If misconduct is committed by an ad-hoc reviewer, they will be barred from further contributions to the journal, and their reviewer role will be deactivated. Misconduct identified after publication will result in corrections or the full retraction of the article from InCID.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public supports a greater global democratization of knowledge.

To this end, the journal adopts the DOAJ criteria for open access journals:
