Abstract

Descriptive study based on public health journals indexed in LILACS database in 2009. It´s based on the identification of funding sources for publication the journals (22) and scientific research reported by these journals (1529), in 2008. Most journals of public health relies on funding from federal agencies for their publication and about 30% of published articles come from some kind of research funding or research grants. CNPq and Capes are consecrated as the agencies that granted more financial aid for the production of journals. The journals internal financial aid have been valid subscriptions, sales of single issues, recovery of cost and expenses of the publication, among others. Maybe the open access to journal contents has been resulted in a decrease in paid subscriptions, which may have reflected negatively on their revenues. Studies about the identification of donors for the publication of Brazilian scientific journals and the development of research will allow us to establish the relationship between funding and quality.
