Abstract

This article presents an initial reflection on the concept of non-presence, which was described and analyzed by Lucia Castello Branco in her work O que é escrita feminina (1991), and also sets out to carry out a case study in an attempt to understand how this non-presence described by Castello Branco could be observed in literature that inextricably links verbal text and image: more specifically, comic books. The theoretical basis for this analysis of non-presence based on the predominant language and elements in comics was mainly the relationship between text and image presented by Will Eisner in his book Quadrinhos e arte sequencial (1989) and by Scott McCloud in his work Desvendando os quadrinhos (1995). The corpus chosen for this discussion was the Italian graphic novel CeneretolA (2021) by writers, comics artists and illustrators Fumettibrutti and Joe1.
