Inside look, external look: the Italy of the Grand Tour

This article presents a brief analysis of the role of the travel narratives whose scenario was the Italy of the Grand Tour, demonstrating how these narratives eventually determined the tone and the themes that described and interpreted Italian cul- ture over many centuries. It also intends to highlight the contribution of these narratives to the formation of a self-awareness not only in Italy but throughout modern Europe.
