In the essay "What is literature for?", Mario Barenghi, literary critic and professor of Italian literature at University of Milan Bicocca, thinks about the multiple functions of the literature. By tracing a path that goes through both literary and theorical tests, the essayist also reflects on other important topics, such as the experience of reading and teaching literature.
