(Letters between Fritz Müller and Charles Darwin)

In 1865, Fritz Müller, a German naturalist living in Brazil, received a letter from none other than Charles Darwin (the English naturalist who certainly needs no introduction), praising the German’s latest published work and requesting further information about his research. Müller welcomed the letter warmly; not only did he reply, but he also initiated an ongoing exchange of correspondence containing additional observational data on Brazilian flora and fauna. This epistolary relationship was so successful that it lasted 17 years, spanning from 1865 to 1882 (the year of Darwin’s death). The book Cartas entre Fritz Müller e Charles Darwin (Letters between Fritz Müller and Charles Darwin) compiled by Ana Maria Ludwig Moraes, a historian, researcher, and member of the Historical Institute of Blumenau, focuses on this enduring correspondence. For the first time, the 110 letters are available to be read in their entirety in Portuguese.
