Abstract

This article discusses the idea of ​​life in the French “pre-revolutionary” moment, questioning how the modes of interpretation of the phenomena manifested by living organisms can contribute to the dialectical construction of the concept of living being in contemporaneity. In this approach, we present the work L`Homme-Machine (La Mettrie, 1748), characterizing its historical contributions to the construction of materialist/mechanistic (non-reductionist) explanatory modes related to living beings.

  • Simone Sendin Moreira Guimarães, Universidade Federal de Goiás

    Doctor in School Education - Teacher Training from the Universidade Estadual Paulista "Julio de Mesquita Filho" - UNESP (Campus Araraquara) (2010), Master in Education - Science Teaching from the Methodist University of Piracicaba - UNIMEP (2003), specialist in Environmental Education and Water Resources from the University of São Paulo - USP (São Carlos) (2001) and a degree in Biological Sciences from the Methodist University of Piracicaba - UNIMEP (1998). She is currently Associate Professor I at the Institute of Biological Sciences (ICB) at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG).

  • Maria Elice de Brzezinski Prestes , Universidade de São Paulo

    Graduated in Biological Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (1983). Specialist in History of Science and Epistemology at the State University of Campinas (1992) and Master in Environmental Science at the University of São Paulo (1997). Doctor in Education at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo (2003), with a sandwich Doctorate (CNPq 2002) at the Sphere-REHSEIS at the University of Paris 7. She is currently an associate professor at the Department of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology of the Biosciences Institute of University of Sao Paulo.
