Abstract

The present research note aims to exhibit preliminary results of an ongoing research agenda regarding Latin-American legislative behavior in foreign policy issues. I present logistic regression results from trade policy legislative voting in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru. Socio economic variables at the electoral district level and partisan variables such as political party`s ideology and governmental collation composes the empirical model to understand legislative voting in trade policy issues. The findings suggest strong association between partisan variables and legislative voting in Argentina, Chile and Mexico, while district socioeconomic factors have shown a stronger association with legislative votes in Brazil Paraguay and Peru
