Manipulation and Digital Textuality - A Textual Analysis of the Dramatic Scene in Disinformative Narratives

This study investigates, from the perspective of textual criteria, how the dramatic scene is configured in disinformation texts. Social networks have become a stage for the spread of disinformation, as well as the manipulation of information to bias public opinion through fear and the destabilization of beliefs in institutions. This dramatic scene, according to Charaudeau (2020), has three characteristics: social disorder, culprit and savior. These are the elements that characterize the strategy of manipulation by dramatization. Based on the analysis of the analytical criterion of referential networks (Matos, 2018), we demonstrated how the dramatic script is operationalized in disinformative posts on TikTok and Telegram: social disorder (collection of DPVAT insurance and attack on social networks); culprit (Lula) and savior (Bolsonaro). Thus, the dramatic scheme is a common feature of disinformative texts that manipulate information to discredit government opponents.
