Abstract

The correspondence between writers Lygia Fagundes Telles (1923-2022) and Rachel de Queiroz (1910-2003), currently preserved in the literary collection of the Moreira Salles Institute and little known in academic circles, holds particular interest for scholars and for the study of letters as a literary manuscript. The documents transcribed and analyzed here offer a profound insight into the intimate thoughts of Lygia Fagundes Telles and her reflections on literary creation and life. Her dialogue with Rachel de Queiroz, found in notes, postcards, and telegrams sent between the 1980s and 2000s, subtly reveals Lygia’s literary choices and highlights the constant message exchanged between the two authors: the need for the inclusion and affirmation of women in literature, in a space predominantly occupied and orchestrated by men. The role of both authors in the Brazilian modernist scene, as well as issues related to their initiation into literature and academia, are some of the topics discussed in this article.
