Transdisciplinary Dialogues: Contributions of the Dialogic Theory of Language to the Analysis of Digital Discourses

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how the conception of language in Bakhtin and the Circle, in conjunction with principles developed by Marie-Anne Paveau for the analysis of digital discourse, contributes to reflections on ethical responsibility in discursive production within the digital space. The dialogue between the epistemologies of Dialogical Discourse Analysis and Digital Discourse Analysis is justified due to the French linguist's recognition of the productivity of Bakhtin's theoretical construct for the investigation of the ecology of digital discourse. The research is based on a bibliographic analysis of primary texts by Bakhtin and the Circle and commentators, in addition to Paveau's works on discursive virtues and digital discourse analysis. The study is organized into three sections: 1) exposition of the contexts of production of the Circle and Paveau; 2) discussion of convergent principles in the thought of Paveau and Bakhtin; and 3) reflection on ethical discursive responsibility in the philosophy of both theorists. This study seeks to contribute to the theoretical exchange, highlighting the relevance of Bakhtinian theory for the analysis of digital enunciative production. As a result, the dialogue between Bakhtin and Paveau contributed to highlighting ethical responsibility as a constitutive element of discursive activity in digital environments.
